Product Origins

Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) is a small deciduous shrub belonging to the Ericaceae family and is native to mainland Europe, Britain and Siberia.

The medicinal properties of the fruits and leaves of Vaccinium myrtillus have been known since the Middle Age since when the berries have been utilised for their astringent, tonic and antiseptic properties in the management of diarrhoea, dysentery, haemorrhoids, gastrointestinal inflammations and mouth infections. Nowadays, Bilberry (fruit) Extract, is commonly used to treat various eye disorders and to promote general capillary health.

Product Applications

Bilberry extract acts to improve blood circulation in the capillaries of the eyes and is used primarily to support vision and eye health among those performing fine detailed work, reading or operating computers for prolonged periods, driving for prolonged periods or at night (night blindness) and to reduce eye irritation.

Bilberry is also an antioxidant and free radical scavenger.
